CT, CAT Scan or “Computed Tomography” is an advanced form of Xray imaging that produces multiple images of the body in slices and is interpreted by a highly trained Doctor that has specialised in Radiology.
Your Dr will request a low dose CT scan at Precision Radiology to get extra information about various organs in your body.

Precision Radiology has invested in a special low dose CT scanner to obtain detailed images of the organs such as your brain, lungs, liver,kidneys,soft tissues, bones, blood vessels, and joints.
At Precision Radiology, low dose CT is also be used to guide Interventional and Pain-relieving procedures.
At Precision Radiology, we minimise your exposure to radiation by abiding with the ALARA (AS LOW AS REASONABLY ACHIEVABLE) principle. Our highly trained CT Radiographer (a technologist trained to perform CT and Xray’s) will use the lowest possible settings tailored to your specific needs to obtain high quality images.

You will be asked to lie comfortably on the CT table, which is connected to the CT scanner opening shaped like a doughnut. The table will be move in and out of this opening. The opening is much wider than a MRI machine and is not noisy. You may hear a voice that gives you breathing instructions (Hold your breath , breathe normally).
A low dose CT scan at Precision Radiology is painless and generally non-invasive. Sometimes a dye (contrast agent) needs to be given through your veins. This gives more detailed information about your organs and blood vessels and is helpful in some cases is helpful in planning your treatment. The contrast injection may give you a feeling of warmth, , or a brief metallic taste in your mouth. These are all normal and will pass in a few minutes.
No one is allowed to accompany you in the CT scanner. They can sit in the Precision radiology waiting room while you have your low dose CT scan.

At Precision Radiology, most low dose CT scans don’t require any preparation. However, depending upon the area being examined, you may be asked to fast for 6 to 8 hours. Occasionally you may be asked to drink some water just before the low dose CT scan. Our friendly reception team at Precision Radiology will let you know when you make the low dose CT scan appointment, if any additional preparation is needed.
Bring any relevant prior Xrays, Ultrasound and CT scans and the current medications you are taking at the time of your appointment.

Wear loose comfortable clothes. You may have to change into a gown just before your low dose CT scan.
You will need to remove all jewellery and piercings.
